Not only has Corey made a successful move from receiver to
cornerback, he has climbed to the top of the depth chart and is the
projected starter at the field corner position for his senior
season...following a redshirt season in 2007 due to an injury at
the end of his high school career, Corey spent two years as a wide
receiver for the Golden Eagles....moved in 2010 spring drills to
defense and found a home in the secondary...his first season on the
Golden Eagle roster had him at defensive back during his redshirt
season, so he has returned to a familiar role...owns a tremendous
work ethic...good combination of speed and strength...helps to
provide an experienced foundation to the secondary...has exhibited
steady improvement as he has gained experience...only thing keeping
him from more playing time has been injuries...a real student of
the game, he shows a strong knowledge of his position...has been on
the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each of the past six
semesters.
At Tech (In 2010): Made the move to the defensive
side of scrimmage during spring drills and saw action in 10 games
in the fall as a cornerback...also played on special teams...made
10 total tackles...had his first career interception in the game
against Eastern Kentucky...missed the game at Southeast Missouri
with an injury.
(In 2009): Corey saw action in eight games as an outside
receiver...had two catches for 42 yards...grabbed one pass for a
27-yard gain at Kansas State...his second catch covered 15 yards in
game against Jacksonville State.
(In 2008): Corey was on the field in 11 games as a
redshirt freshman, lining up at receiver and also spending time on
special teams...caught seven passes for 62 yards...had four
receptions for 36 yards at Murray State for career-high
numbers.
(In 2007): Sat out the entire 2007 season as a
medical redshirt after an ankle injury and surgery.
HIGH SCHOOL: Corey was a standout two-way player
at Sevier County High School, seeing time at quarterback and
defensive back...a versatile player, he also lined up at wide
receiver and kick returner on his way to earning Region 1-5A
Offensive Player of the Year in his final two seasons...was also a
two-time first-team all-region pick as a defensive back...a
Tennessee-Kentucky All-Star game selection...during his prep
career, he scored 80 points and returned three punts for
touchdowns.
