COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams will make the trip down I-40 for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Saturday morning at Vaughn's Creek Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The league's annual championship event will kick off with the men's 8K at 9:00 a.m. CT. The women's 5K is set to follow at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The purple and gold enter this year's rendition of the conference's championship competitions with momentum on their side after both displaying highly successful showings at the Golden Eagle Invitational two weeks ago. The Tech women took home first place in its annual event while the men secured a runner-up finish.

Returning freshman Amanda Laboy led the Tech effort on the women's side, placing second overall with a time of 18:41.4 as one of four members of the purple and gold to finish in the top-10. Helen Pacurariu-Nagy was right behind in third place while Rahab Sawe (fifth) and Ruby Wyles (seventh) capped the lead group for the purple and gold.

On the men's side, Miceal McCaul took his first turn in leading the Golden Eagles this season, placing third overall and first on the squad in the 8K with a time of 25:30.2. Following close behind in the top-10 were returning freshmen Chase Faudi (sixth) and Clayton Kirkus (seventh), as well as senior Ababu Mohamed (10th).

Early Friday afternoon, it was announced by the OVC that McCaul and Wyles had been named the league's Male and Female Freshmen of the Year, the first time both honors went to the Golden Eagle programs in the same season. McCaul represented the second Tech runner to claim the men's honor in school history while Wyle's win on the female side marked the third for the program.
