Tech cross country set to host Golden Eagle Invitational Friday afternoon

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams will host the Golden Eagle Invitational Friday, Oct. 15 at the Putnam County Sports Complex in Cookeville, the teams' final competition before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in two weeks.

The event will kick off with the women's 5K at 3:00 p.m. CT. The men's 8K is set to follow at approximately 3:45 p.m.

The purple and gold squads enter their final tune-up before the league championships after competing at Live in Lou Cross Country Classic two weeks ago.

The men's team saw six of its seven competitors deliver lifetime bests, led by sophomore Dominic Smith with a time of 24:37.3, the 16th fastest time in program history in the 8K. Freshman Miceal McCaul followed at 24:48.2, the 22nd best time in the 8K in Tech history.

For the women, it was Helen Pacurariu-Nagy pacing the Golden Eagle effort, taking her first turn leading the team with a time of 18:06.0 in the 5K, the 23rd quickest time in team history. Returning freshman Amanda Laboy clocked in next at 18:30.4 with three more Golden Eagles within 15 seconds of her time.

The Fields
The Golden Eagle Invitational field consists of host Tennessee Tech, as well as, Austin Peay, Chattanooga, ETSU, Lane College, Murray State, Southeast Missouri, and Tennessee State.

Following this Friday's race, Tech will make preparations for the OVC Championships in Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 30.
