Cross Country Opens 2019 Season at Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech cross country has their eyes set on their first competition of the 2019 season, the Belmont Opener at Percy Warner Park in Nashville on Friday, Aug. 30.

The field consists of three other Tennessee schools, including Belmont, Lipscomb, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee State.

"We are really looking forward to racing in Nashville to kick off the season," said head coach Peter Dalton. "The field will be very competitive and it will be a great test for our program."

D'Airrien Jackson, Courtney McCowan, Tieara Norman, Madeline Watts, Nancy Jesang, Rahab Chepkorir, and Sharon Chepkemboi will compete on the women's side.

Of the women's teams competing, three of the programs were ranked in the USTFCCCA preseason poll. Vanderbilt led the way in fifth, followed by Lipscomb in eighth and Belmont in 13th.

For the men, Ababu Mohamed, Gabriel Kiprono, Benard Sigei, Hannes Vohn, and Devin Lancaster are set to compete.

Besides the Golden Eagles slotted into 11th, three of the five competing teams were also ranked in the USTFCCCA preseason poll with Belmont leading the way at seventh, followed by Vanderbilt in 14th, and Lipscomb ranked 15th.

Both the men and the women will be a 5K race, with the women going at 5 p.m. and the men at 5:30 p.m.
