Golden Eagle teams both finish third at Foothills; John Greene places first

OXFORD, Ala. -- Golden Eagle senior John Greene took first place individually in the men's race and the Tennessee Tech cross country teams both finished in third place at the Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational Saturday morning.

Greene finished ahead of the pack among the 18 runners in the "Red" division, posting a time of 26:30.55 over the 8K course. Sterling Smith was Tech's next finisher, placing seventh in the division in 27:21.58. Matthew Bishop was two runners behind, placing ninth in 27:43.99. Frshman Sam Lariviere was fourth for the Golden Eagles, placing 13th in 28:34,47, while freshman Jordan Roth completed the Golden Eagle lineup, finishing 15th in 29:25.28.

Mercer won the "Red" men's race with 33 points, followed by Jacksonville State with 42 and Tech with 45.

Four runners set new career-best marks for the Golden Eagles and a fifth established a personal mark in the women's race. Rebecca Cline led Tech, finishing ninth in the time of 19:18.95. Yeshi Dohrmann was next for the Golden Eagles, placing 10th in 19:32.35 for the first Tech's career-best numbers.

Peri Winborne was 12th in 19:45.43, followed by Amelia MccCoy in 14th with a career-best time of 19:55.16. Meghan O'Donoghue was 22nd in 21:19.16, followed by freshman Claire Cashin with a career-best 21:29.10 for 24th place. Elizabeth Mitchell also posted a personal-best with a time of 21:33.98 for 26th place. Sarah Wilson, running in her first race for the GoldenE agles, was 28th in 21:51.69.

Jacksonville State won the team title with 25 points, followed by Mercer with 39, Tech with 59, and Alabama A&M with 115.

The next action for the Golden Eagles, and the final meet of the season before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, will be the Evansville Invitational, Oct. 19.
