COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Tiffany Palmer led the way for
the Tennessee Tech women’s cross country team Friday
afternoon at Southern Hills Golf Course as the Golden Eagles
finished exactly in the middle of the seven-team standings.
Palmer placed seventh individually, running the 5K course in
19:57.01. As a team, Tech placed fourth. Chattanooga (28 points)
edged out Murray State (35) for the top team spot, with
Jacksonville State (74) third. Tech had 85 points, finished ahead
of North Alabama (141), Tennessee State (167) and Alabama A&M
(173).
Chattanooga’s Anneli Uys took first place in 18:41.36, with
Taylor Crawford of Murray State second in 18:59.29.
Sophomore Traci Jones finished second for Tech, placing 12th in
20:43.52. Senior Amanda Simmons also grabbed a top 20 finish,
placing 17th in 21:09.52.
Running fourth for the Golden Eagles was freshman Kathryn Forbes,
placing 23rd in 22:21.54, while senior Sarah Kmet placed 28th in
23:47.57.
Freshman Courtney Koehl led a group of six additional TTU runners,
placing 31st in 23:54.61. The balance of Tech’s lineup
included sophomore Jenna Philpot, sophomore Emily Weinzetl, junior
Danielle Catlett, and sophomores Hannah Henry and Mary Beth
Norris.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is the Furman Invitation next
Saturday (Oct. 10).
