Place leads Tech runners at NCAA South Regional

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Stephanie Place finished 19th overall to lead the women's team as the Tennessee Tech cross country squads competed Saturday in the NCAA South Regional in Maryville. Running on a rain-soaked, hilly course in could and wet conditions, Place covered the 6K route in 21:35 for her Top 20 showing. The Tech women finished 19th among the 23 teams in the field, while the Tech men were 20th out of 21 teams in the 10K event.

While Place led the Tech women, Sam Taylor was in his familiar role of pacing the Golden Eagle men.

Following Place in the women's race, Keri Light finished in 82nd place at 23:29.02. Tiffany Palmer was next in 110th place at 24:05.76, followed by teammates Ashley Evans in 131st (25:06.16) and freshman Traci Jones in 138th place (26:01.21).

As they have done all season, the Tech men's team was grouped pretty closely at the finish line, led by Sam Taylor who placed 90th in 34:54.30. The next three Golden Eagle runners all cross the line within three places of each other, with Jarrad Read 110th (35:51.49), Joseph DeLorenzo 112th (35:59.62) and Ben Thompson 113th (36:02.41).

Ben Shassere finished in 121st place (36:36.09) and Peter Woerner was right behind in 122nd place (36:36.32).
