While coaching the Mountaineers, she worked on the bench for Club Synergy, an 18-and-under travel team, and Watauga High School in Boone, N.C. Flaherty coached three seasons at Watauga, where she helped oversee a three-year record of 64-12. There, she assisted both varsity and junior varsity coaches during practice and games and helped refine the volleyball skills of the players. Flaherty contributed to the class of 2018's three-year record of 64-12 and the team's two appearances in the Final Eight.

Flaherty also played four years of Division I college volleyball, beginning her career at Wofford for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, before transferring to play at App State in 2016. A knee injury brought on her transition from player to coach for the 2017 campaign.

She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from App State, graduating summa cum laude in December 2017. Flaherty added a master's of arts in exercise science in December 2021, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
