Robertson, Dunn lead Golden Eagle women to sixth at Jan Weaver Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. – With sophomore Allyson Dunn leading the way on the final day, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team managed to jump back up one spot in the standings to finish sixth at the 13-team Jan Weaver Invitational, hosted by Murray State University.

Dunn closed her final tour of the Miller Memorial Golf Course with a 77, the low round of the day for coach Polk Brown's team, earning her a Top 20 finish with a 54-hole 239 total. She bounced back from an opening round 83 to shoot a 79 in the second round before finishing with her best score of the affair.

Over the long haul, Whitney Robertson was the top finisher on the team with a Top 10 effort. The junior from Clarksville, Tenn., tied for eighth place overall at 236. Robertson shot scores of 79 and 77 on Friday, and closed out play Saturday with an 80.

Freshman Hollee Sadler finished in a tie for 26th place at 242. After kicking things off with a 78, Sadler posted matching scores of 82 in the second and third rounds.

Senior Maddi Everts (83-80-83) finished in 32nd place at 246, while freshman Lindsay Miller (89-86-85) settled into 60th place with a 260 total.

Among three Golden Eagles playing as individuals in the tournament, junior Haley Davidson (82-77-80) had the best showing by finishing in a tie for 20th place at 239. Anna Cunningham (81-82-87) placed 43rd at 250, while senior Megan Williamson (86-85-85) placed 56th at 256.

Morehead State overcame host Murray State in the final round to claim the team championship y three shots. The Eagles shot a 311 on Saturday to score 935. Murray State, which opened the day with a five-shot lead, posted a 319 Saturday and closed with a 938 for second place. Xavier stayed in third place through all three rounds, finishing at 944 following a final round 318.

Southern Illinois and Austin Peay wound up tied for fourth place at 952. SIU had a final round 320 while APSU climbed in the tie with a 317 Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (323-318-322--963) zipped past Akron (964) to claim sixth place by one stroke, after the Zips posted a 324 final round. Fairleigh Dickinson (969) finished eight, followed by Alabama State and Belmont (976) in a tie for ninth place. Omaha (1,018), Tennessee State (1,064) and Lindenwood-Belleville (disqualified) completed the field.

Moa Folke of Murray State captured medalist honors at 223, claiming a two-stroke edge over Morehead State's Katie Rice. Jessica Cathey of Austin Peay placed third.

The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to the Ohio Valley Conference championships, which will be held April 18-19-20 at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Owens Cross Roads, Ala.
