Tech track & field team set to compete in Hilltopper Relays Friday and Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field program makes it back-to-back weeks with a two-day event on the docket, traveling the short distance north for Western Kentucky's Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday.

Hilltopper Relays Information
Apr. 2-3, 2021 – Located at Charles M. Ruter Track in Bowling Green, Ky. Friday's action will kick off at 1:00 p.m. CT. On Saturday, field events will begin at 9:00 a.m. while the running events are slated to kick off at 12:00 p.m.

What to Watch For
The Golden Eagles head for their third event of the spring, coming off a solid showing at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays last weekend. The Hilltopper Relays represents Tech's second-straight, two-day event.

Competing in the 200m at last week's meet, sophomore Lyn'Nikka Vance turned in her season-best showing with a top-25 performance. The Monee, Ill. native raced to a final time of 24.90. A day after delivering a season-best showing in the 400m, sophomore Anya Akili turned in her own personal-best in the 200m, finishing with a time of 25.78.

Akili also turned in a PR in the javelin throw on the day, covering a distance of 27.88m for her longest throw. Closing out the 1,500m with a top-15 showing was junior Tina Cesnik. The North Florida transfer clocked a final time of 4:44.78 for a new personal record in the event.

Rocking the long jump with top performances of the season were Samaria Allen and Jadae Joseph. Putting forth a top-20 effort, Allen lept to a distance of 5.17m for her best jump of the year. Joseph recorded her best leap as well, covering 4.71m.

Senior veteran Tieara Norman produced a top-10 finish while competing in the 400m hurdles, recording a season-best time of 1:04.06.

Kendall Meddars had a season-best showing in the high jump on Friday, clearing 1.52m. Also on Friday, Ayanna Haywood and Trenia Stephens each raced to top times on the year in the 400m.
