Golden Eagles get three wins, three school records at Kentucky Relays

By Rob Schabert, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- . -- D'Airrien Jackson captured first place in the women's 400-meter dash and Gilbert Boit won the men's mile run to provide the top individual finishes Saturday for the Tennessee Tech track & field teams at the Kentucky Relays. The 4x400m relay team also claimed a first-place finish.

Meanwhile, freshman Na'Asha Robinson broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash and ran the anchor leg on Tech's 4x100m relay team that also broke a school record.

It was the final chance for the Golden Eagles to tune up in preparation for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference championships, set for May 13-14 at Tennessee State University.

Jackson was just off the pace of the school record, but posted a winning time of 53.68 seconds in breaking the tape in the 400-meter run.  Tech's other win came when Boit, also a freshman, won the mile run in the time of 4:07.37.

Robinson's record in the 200-meter dash was 23.78 seconds, eclipsing the school standard of 23.92 that she set in California two weeks earlier.

In the 4x100m relay, it was a team of four freshmen whose time of 46.53 placed third and nipped the school record of 46.75 which had been set in March at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Sharnique Leonce ran the leadoff leg, followed by Jackson, Crystal Liebenberg, and Robinson.

The other relay squad, which featured the same for runners for coach Wayne Angel's team, blazed to a first-place showing in the 4x400m event with a time of 3:42.33. Robinson kicked off this relay, followed by Liebenberg and Jackson, before Leonce finished off the win.

In addition to the school records, the Golden Eagles also established seven personal best times, including two more sprinters in the 200-meter dash. Morgan O'Neal had a PR of 25.72 seconds while Currin Washington posted a PR of 25.90 seconds.

Robinson claimed another third-place finish, heading up four Golden Eagle runners in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 12.06 seconds. Brittany McGee also had a PR at 100m with a time of 12.82 seconds.

Eshe' Robinson had a personal-best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds. Washington had a second PR, this time in the 400-meter dash with a seventh-place showing in 1:01.21.

Makayla Kington notched the other personal-best with a toss of 117 feet, 3.5 inches in the hammer throw.
