Cross country concludes road trip to Nashville with Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech cross country made their second trip to Nashville on Saturday as they competed in the Commodore Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University.

The Golden Eagles were highlighted by Ababu Mohamed and Gabriel Kiprono, who both set new personal records. On the women's side, Nancy Jesang paced the Golden Eagles for the second-straight race.

Mohamed was Tech's top finisher, crossing with a time of 25:55.9. Kiprono finished behind Mohamed as he finished with a time of 26:08.2. The Commodore Classic marked the second-straight race this season that Mohamed has paced the Golden Eagles.

Benard Sigei and Sam Eastin rounded out the Golden Eagles field finishing third and fourth for the team.

Jesang led the women's team as she finished 44th with a time of 22:30.8. Rahab Sawe finished second for the Golden Eagles, crossing with a time of 23:37.6. Sharon Chepkemboi was Tech's third finisher as she turned in a time of 26:03.

Tieara Norman and Alexa Brugere were Tech's last two scorers finishing fourth and fifth, while Madeline Watts and Courtney McGowan rounded out the Golden Eagle field.

The Golden Eagles will take the next few weeks as they prepare and head to the Bluegrass State for the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 5 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
