Matt is in his second season with the Golden Eagles. His integrity and endurance is sure to accumulate several successful seasons for the cross country team. Matt also strives for success academically having been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll his freshman year at Tech.

AT TECH (In 2011): Matt ran in all seven meets in his first season as a Golden Eagle and showed marked improvement throughout the season...ran a personal best 29:12 in his final 8K meet of the season at the OVC Championships and was Tech’s sixth finisher...set PRs in all but one meet in 2011...sliced his 30:35 time at Sewanee by nearly a half-minute at Georgia State, where he ran a 30:09, then cut that time by almost 20 seconds at the TTU Invitational with a 29:51...continued his trend of improvement at Jacksonville State, posting a 29:15...best finish in relation to his teammates was fifth at Sewanee and TTU...ran a 39:06 in the 10K at the NCAA South Regional and was Tech’s sixth finisher.

HIGH SCHOOL: Matt was a four-year letterman in track and a two-year letterman in cross country under coach Louie DeLorenzo at Cumberland County High School...named Most Valuable Runner on the track team in 2011 and on the cross country squad in 2010...was also an All-Region AAA honoree...ran a personal-record 17:47.94 5K at the Back Yard Cross Country Invite on Oct. 9, 2010...ran a PR of 4:55.80 in the 1600 meter run and 10:24.40 in the 3200 meter.

PERSONAL: The son of Howard and Barbara Pennycuff...born Oct. 13, 1992...full name is Matthew Alexander Pennycuff...majoring in pre-law.
