INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – With play on the courts about to conclude for the Tennessee Tech tennis team, a pair of Golden Eagles were honored for their efforts off the courts and in the classroom.
Sophomore Alex Alvarez and senior Darek Kuczynski were both named to the 2025 Valeo Horizon League All-Academic team, serving as two of the only seven men's tennis student-athletes recognized across the league's 10 teams. Tech was also one of just four different schools to place one on the prestigious list and joined IU Indianapolis as the only two programs in the conference to place at least a pair on the account.
Alvarez picks up the accolade as a three-time member of the TTU Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In between the lines, the reigning All-Horizon League second teamer has competed as Tech's No. 1 singles player all season long and is tied for the most doubles wins on the club.
Kuczynski collects the award as a three-time member of the TTU Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well, securing his place on the list in all three semesters since joining the purple and gold from Siena prior to the start of the 2023 fall campaign. The recipient of the TTU athletic department's 2024 President's Award for tennis is currently leading the Golden Eagles in singles wins this spring.
Alvarez, Kuczynksi and the rest of the purple and gold will host Belmont on Saturday, Apr. 19 in the 2025 season finale. First serve from Tech Tennis Courts is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and admission is free of charge.
