Tech football inks 13 on December signing day

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Signing day is an important day for any football team as they bolster their lineup for years to come. Wednesday was no different as the Tennessee Tech coaching staff was hard at work putting together the first part of its signing class of 2020-21.

Despite a strange year where recruiting methods changed and schedules changed in an instant, the Tech coaches persevered and put together an exciting signing class on Wednesday. The class includes:

Raveon Moore (ATH/WR, 6-3, 240, Atlanta, Ga., Maynard Jackson HS)

As a passer, Moore completed 45 passes for 937 yards with 11 touchdowns. On foot, he rushed 116 times for 569 yards and seven scores. As a receiver, he caught five passes for 129 yards, averaging 25.8 yards per catch. He ended his career with 1,163 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, while rushing for 809 yards and nine touchdowns, as well as catching 39 passes for 700 yards and seven touchdowns.

A highly decorated student-athlete, Wash passed for 1,313 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, while also rushing for 1,292 yards and 20 scores. He ended his career with 2,161 passing yards and 2,504 rushing yards with 84 total touchdowns. He led Derby to consecutive state championships.

Among his honors, he was the Vype 6A Player of the Year in 2019, the Sports in Kansas 6A Offensive Player of the Year in 2020, a two-time all-metro team selection, a Kansas Top 11 selection, first-team AVCTL in 2019 and was a Blue-Gray All-American Game pick.

Jalal Dean (WR, 6-1, 180, Williamston, S.C., Palmetto HS)

This past season, he rushed the ball 16 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns, while also catching 55 passes for 1,038 yards and 12 scores.

Logan Weedman (OL, 6-5, 280, Owensboro, Ky. Apollo HS)

A four-time KHSAA Academic All-State selection, Woodman also earned a second-team all-state selection his junior year, and earned all-area and all-region first-team selections from the Messenger-Inquirer, HomersRadio and 102.7 The Game. Woodman led the state of Kentucky in sacks during the 2018 campaign and also took the school's career mark.

Dylan Gibson (TE, 6-4, 250, Winchester, Ky., George Rogers Clark HS)

An all-district selection, Gibson earned invitations to the All-American and Hawaii Tiki Bowls

Hudson Tucker (DL, 6-3, 245, Kingsland, Ga., Camden County HS)

365 Bench | 315 Clean

Hudson rushed seven times for 10 yards and a touchdown. He also had 57 tackles in 2020 – 38 solo and 19 assisted, with nine for-loss. Hudson also recorded 14 sacks for 76 yards, forced three fumbles.

Devin Miller (WR, 6-2, 205, Atlanta, Ga., Mays HS)

Miller caught 30 passes for 547 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 18.2 yards per catch and 60.8 yards per game in 2020.

Evan Jones (TE, 6-5, 245, Smithville, Tenn., DeKalb Co. HS)

Jones finished 2020 with nine catches for 88 yards and three touchdowns in nine games played. He also had 22 tackles – 18 solo and four assisted – with a sack for three yards. He helped lead DeKalb County to a Region 3-4A championship and earned all-region honors.

Alex Delk (OL, 6-4, 305, Cookeville, Tenn., Cookeville HS)

A three-year starter for Cookeville High, protected for a Cavalier squad that put up 2,249 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns, as well as 596 passing yards and two scores, while only yielding 10 sacks across nine games. Delk also recorded nine tackles, eight solo and one assisted. He was named to the Region 3-6A team and invited to the Tennessee East-West All-Star Combine.

Wes Delk (OL, 6-4, 295, Cookeville, Tenn., Cookeville HS)

Just like Alex above, Wes was a three-year starter for Cookeville High, protected for a Cavalier squad that put up 2,249 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns, as well as 596 passing yards and two scores, while only yielding 10 sacks across nine games. Delk also recorded nine tackles, eight solo and one assisted. He was named to the Region 3-6A team and invited to the Tennessee East-West All-Star Combine.

Jonathan Smith (DL, 6-4, 240, Luverne, Ala., Luverne HS)

Smith had a strong senior campaign, collecting 54 tackles, including eight for-loss and seven sacks, while also forcing and recovering a fumble. An honorable mention all-state selection, he helped lead his team to a Region 3-2A championship in 2019. He wrapped up his career with 181 tackles – 18 for loss with 11 sacks – as well as three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 11 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns.

Jalon Baker (DB, 6-0, 185, Valdosta, Ga., Lowndes HS)

Baker had two interceptions in the nationally televised Winnersville Classic on ESPN2. He helped lead Lowndes to a region title. This season, he had 64 total tackles in 2020 (37 solo, 27 assisted) and three interceptions. For his career, he had 153 tackles, 5.5 sacks and six interceptions for 105 yards.

As a senior, caught 27 passes for 521 yards with five touchdowns. In his career, he had 59 receptions for 1,148 yards and 14 TDs. He previously earned a first-team all-state selection in Class 5A. With the pandemic, his high school team did not compete in 2020, prompting him to wrap up his prep career on the home school circuit.

Finished his career with Greater Praise Christian Academy in Memphis, where the team won the 2020 National Division II Home School championship. According to 24/7 Sports, he had looks from Kansas, Marshall, Maryland and Southern Miss, then offers from Marshall, Southern Miss and Tennessee before picking Tech.

His brother, Don't'e Vaughn, played football for four years at Notre Dame, while his cousin, Jaden Johnson, played two seasons at Missouri State.
