COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After helping his team to a 2-1 start to Ohio Valley Conference play, and a 3-1 week overall, Tennessee Tech sophomore Jason Hinchman earned both OVC Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honors.

Both accolades represented the first of the young slugger's career and were highly warranted. Hinchman slashed .538/.647/1.615 for the week, racking up a whopping nine RBI and nine runs scored with two doubles and four home runs. He also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch.

A native of Winston, Ga., Hinchman kicked off the week with a 1-for-2 showing at Alabama A&M. In the 23-2 victory, he smashed his first home run of the season while driving in a pair and scoring twice. He homered again in Tech's OVC opener against SIUE, again driving in two runs while scoring two more times.

The first baseman went bananas in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader with the Cougars, hammering two moon shots as part of a 4-for-5 day with five RBI and four runs scored. He also doubled in the contest. Hinchman rounded out the weekend with another double and two walks in the second game of the day.

The Golden Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon, playing host to Valparaiso at 2:00 p.m. CT at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex. Tech will then visit in-state rival Lipscomb on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
