COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Following a stellar debut in the purple and gold, Tennessee Tech baseball junior Caleb Morgan took home Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Monday afternoon.
A native of Grenada, Miss. and transfer from Hinds Community College, Morgan took the bump for the Golden Eagles in the 2019 season opener Friday night, earning the victory after tossing five complete shutout innings. The right hander held Western Illinois to one hit in his time on the hill as well, allowing a grand total of four baserunners.
Morgan struck out eight Leatherneck batters in the contest, compiling multiple punch outs in three innings. He also picked off a runner trying to steal in the fifth and allowed just two walks.
The Golden Eagles completed a series sweep of Western Illinois on Saturday, taking both games in a doubleheader to finish 3-0 on the first weekend of the newest campaign of Tech baseball.
