OVC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

2013 (Sophomore): Lucio enjoyed a breakout season on the mound, setting a school record for appearances in a season with 30… made 12 saves as Tech’s closer, shattering the program record for a season and tying the career record at the same time… finished in a tie for third in the OVC in saves… tallied 44.1 innings of work, allowing batters to hit just .211 on the year to rank first on the team… led the Tech squad in strikeouts per nine innings with a mark of 12.38, the fourth highest average in program history… earned a 3-2 record with a career-low 1.83 ERA while striking out 61 batters… did not give up a home run the entire year, finishing fifth in most innings per long ball allowed in a single season with 44.1… finished as one of just two Tech pitchers and the only reliever to record at least one strikeout in every appearance he made… did not allow an earned run for nine straight games from Apr. 23 to May 17… racked up 12 games without surrendering a hit and didn’t allow a walk in nine of them… made three consecutive saves with the first against Eastern Illinois (Apr. 13) and the third in the upset victory at No. 2 Vanderbilt (Apr. 16)… recorded season-highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts at Eastern Kentucky (Mar. 10), tossing 5.1 innings of relief while setting down five batters on strikes… was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Mid-Season Watch List… earned All-OVC Second-Team honors as a relief pitcher… also named to the College Sports Madness Ohio Valley All-Conference Second Team.

2012 (Freshman): Lucio had the second most appearances on the team with 20, making six starts along the way… finished the season with a 3-2 record, 60 strikeouts, and a total of 48.2 innings pitched… made his best career start against Tennessee, throwing 8.1 innings and 11 strike outs, while only giving up five hits and one earned run… named OVC Pitcher of the Week (Mar. 19) following the performance at Tennessee… also chipped in offensively with nine at-bats… was named to the OVC All-Freshman Team.

High School: Lucio, a native of Locust Grove, Ga., was named first-team all-region as both a pitcher and as a shortstop for Locust Grove High School… named the Pitcher and Hitter of the Year in 2011…  finished his senior season with an 8-1 record and a 0.83 ERA with 98 strikeouts… also batted .450 his last year.

Personal: Son of Abel and Tonja Lucio… born Apr. 30, 1993… full name is Seth Abel Ray Lucio… majoring in EXPW/fitness and wellness… named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll one time.
