Tennessee Tech Sports Medicine will welcome back a familiar face as Nick Sandy will rejoin the staff as an assistant athletic trainer.

“I’m extremely honored and excited to be back at Tech,” he said. “I look forward to doing my best to offer Tech’s student-athletes with the most excellent medical care possible.”

Sandy’s sport assignments will include baseball and volleyball.

“Nick is a tremendous asset to our staff,” said Tech Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Joe Erdeljac, “and his experience here at Tech makes him an excellent fit. He already has great experience with some of the teams here. He has a great rapport with the student-athletes he works with. When we saw his name among the available candidates, we knew we had to bring him back to our staff.”

Sandy recently spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Tech from July 2018 to May 2020 as he was earning his master’s degree in business administration. His responsibilities included injury evaluation and rehabilitation, concussion management and training room administration.

During his tenure at Tech, he also served as an interim athletic trainer at Livingston Academy from November 2018 to February 2019.

He also has experience working with student-athletes of all ages, spending time with Tech men’s and women’s basketball camps, Tech soccer and softball camps, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes 7-on-7 football camp, as well as the Colorado state track meet and the West Virginia basketball/Gatorade team camp.

A 2016 graduate from West Virginia, Sandy also worked as an athletic training student on the Mountaineers’ staff from August 2013 to May 2016. Following graduation, he spent a year-and-a-half at Hinkley High School in Colorado as the school’s head athletic trainer.

Sandy is BOC-certified and Tennessee licensed, while also earning certification as an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association.
