COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech's student-athletes continued to raise the bar in the classroom during the Spring 2025 semester, securing Golden Eagle Athletics' 11th-straight semester with a departmental GPA of at least 3.20.
During the spring, Tech's 15 programs produced a collective mark of 3.477, the second-highest recorded department-wide GPA. It also represented the 33rd straight semester that Tech Athletics' cumulative GPA exceeded the 3.0 plateau, a legacy that began in Spring 2009.
"Our student-athletes never cease to amaze me with what they continue to accomplish in the classroom behind focused dedication and tireless work, all while balancing a full slate of athletic activities," Tech Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Student Welfare Dr. Leveda Birdwell expressed. "To see them exceed their record-breaking success from the fall is simply amazing, and we couldn't be more proud to work with each of our Golden Eagle student-athletes as they continue to strive to be the best they can be. They hold themselves to immense standards, and it is incredibly rewarding to see their hard work pay off yet again."
For the second time in the department's history, all 15 Golden Eagle teams delivered GPAs above the 3.0 mark, marking the fifth consecutive semester that at least 13 of Tech's programs surpassed the 3.0 threshold. The only prior occurrence came during the 2020 Spring semester, when Tech student-athletes set the highest GPA mark while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Golden Eagle tennis team turned in the top overall GPA for the department with its second-highest GPA ever recorded, a mark of 3.739 that represented the program's 34th consecutive semester above a 3.0. Finishing second with a program-record GPA of 3.735 was the soccer team, moving its streak of semesters above the 3.0 threshold to 43 in a row. Rounding out the top three team GPAs was softball, producing a strong 3.613 for its 42nd straight semester above 3.0.
The volleyball team's incredible streak of consecutive semesters with a GPA topping 3.0 grew to a whopping 50 in a row with a display of 3.571, the longest of any Golden Eagle program. Both indoor and outdoor track & field (3.494) joined the club of teams with at least 40 straight semesters above a 3.0, each sporting 42 consecutive.
Also keeping impressive streaks above the 3.0 threshold were women's cross country (3.495 - 26 straight) and women's golf (3.586 - 24 straight). Rounding out the group of teams above a 3.0 were women's basketball (3.593), men's cross country (3.563) with its second-highest recorded GPA, men's golf (3.336), baseball (3.172), football (3.129) with its highest recorded GPA outside of of the 2020 Spring semester, and men's basketball (3.057).
