COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Another semester in the books translated into yet another highly successful showing in the classroom for Tennessee Tech student-athletes, as the 14 Golden Eagle programs combined to post their 27th straight semester with a GPA over 3.0.

During the Spring 2022 semester, Tech student-athletes came together to produce a mark of 3.305, the athletic department's sixth straight semester with a GPA of at least 3.20. The legacy of Tech's 27 consecutive semesters above a 3.0 began back with the spring semester of 2009.

"Golden Eagle student-athletes constantly impress me with their dedication in the classroom and how much work they put in to be complete individuals, and this most recent semester is no different," Tech Assistant Athletic Director of Academics and Student Welfare Dr. Leveda Birdwell expressed. "Our student-athletes continue to grow, not just on in their respective sports programs, but in the classroom as well. We are all very proud of what they have accomplished and are excited to watch them continue to evolve and progress in the future."

A whopping 13 of Tech's 14 teams delivered GPA's above the 3.0 mark while eight saw improvement from their Fall 2021 grades.

"It continues to be a challenging time to be not just a University student, but a student-athlete," Tech Director of Athletics Mark Wilson said. "I can't be more proud than I am of Golden Eagle student-athletes for continuously putting the work, taking care of business in the classroom, and for competing to their great ability on their respective playing surfaces. We are always thankful and very grateful to have Dr. Birdwell and her staff on campus to help our student-athletes achieve at their highest level. We continue to push every student-athlete to strive to graduate with a championship ring on one hand and diploma in the other."

The Golden Eagle women's golf team came out on top to lead all programs with their third-highest recorded GPA in program history of 3.612. It pushed the team's streak of 18 consecutive semesters above a 3.0 GPA. Soccer was right behind with a 3.505 while women's basketball placed third with a mark of 3.498.

Volleyball continued its incredible streak of boasting a team GPA over 3.0, securing it's 44th consecutive semester above the mark with a 3.309. Also keeping impressive streaks alive were soccer (37 straight), softball (36 straight), and both indoor and outdoor track and field (36 straight with matching 3.25s).

The tennis team turned in a 3.494 GPA to make it 28 consecutive semesters above 3.0 while the women's cross country team reached its 20th straight semester with a mark of 3.436. Baseball recorded its second-highest recorded team GPA and best since the COVID-19-shortened, Spring 2020 semester, securing a mark of 3.257.
