Athletes of the Week

Tennessee Tech selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week throughout the athletic season
to recognize outstanding performances by Golden Eagle student-athletes.

March 2 - March 8

Carlos Vicente
Tennis | SO | Valencia, Spain

Week's Achievements: Vicente won both his singles and doubles matches in helping Tech crush previously undefeated Lipscomb, 7-0. The sophomore teamed up with Fanis Kontopoulos to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, and then claimed a No. 2 singles victory by scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Mackenzie Coleman
Women's Basketball | JR | F | Edmonton, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Coleman turned in the best performance of her career in Tech's heartbreaking, buzzer-beating loss to SEMO in the OVC Tournament. The junior scored a career-high 28 points with nine rebounds, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe.

February 24 - March 1

Riku Kubota
Tennis | JR | Takasaki, Gunma, Japan

Week's Achievements: Kubota helped lead Tech to a pair of victories over the week, finishing a perfect 4-0 between singles and doubles play. He earned a pair of wins over Kennesaw State, including a 6-4, 7-5 victory in the No. 5 singles slot. He picked up another No. 5 singles win against Chattanooga.

Lisa Wickham
Track & Field | SR | Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago

Week's Achievements: Wickham shattered the OVC record for the 60m, easily placing first in the event with a time of 7.27. She finished a whopping 27-hundredths of a second faster than the second-place finisher and beat the previous league mark by 14-hundredths of a second.

February 17 - February 23

Evzen Holis
Tennis | FR | Brno, Czech Republic

Week's Achievements: Hollis finished the weekend 3-1 overall, including a 2-0 mark in singles play and 1-1 record in doubles play. He earned a No. 2 singles win over Florida State's Loris Pourroy 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 and followed it with a No. 1 singles victory against Buffalo's Vilhelm Fridell 6-3, 6-4.

Sydney Love-Baker
Softball | JR | SS | Washington, D.C.

Week's Achievements: Love-Baker paced the Golden Eagle offense over the weekend, batting .385 with four extra-base hits and a 1.000 slugging percentage. She scored five runs while driving in four and smacked a pair of doubles and two home runs in four games. 

February 10 - February 16

Jason Hinchman
Baseball | JR | 1B | Winston, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Hinchman turned in a monster opening weekend with the Golden Eagles, batting .692 with five home runs, seven runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases. He hit a walk-off, solo bomb to clinch Tech's series sweep over Evansville on Sunday, one of his three dingers on the day.

Lisa Wickham
Track & Field | SR | Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago

Week's Achievements: Wickham once again broke her own program record in the 60m, claiming first place in the event at the Bulldog Invitational in Birmingham. Her time of 7.25 seconds set a new meet record for Samford's event and tied her for the 15th-fastest time nationally this season.

February 3 - February 9

Carlos Vicente
Tennis | SO | Valencia, Spain

Week's Achievements: Vicente turned in an undefeated performance in helping the Golden Eagles to their first win of the 2020 spring season over Appalachian State. He took down Matvey Radionov in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 in singles play and earned a 6-4 doubles victory with teammate Evzen Holis.

Raleigh Lewis
Softball | SO | C/1B | Ringgold, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Lewis kicked off the 2020 campaign with a blast, literally, smashing four home runs and driving in nine runs while helping Tech to a 4-1 mark, the team's best five-game start since 1997. She hit .467 in the five games, scoring six runs and slugging 1.267.

January 27 - February 2

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay stuffed the stats sheet in two games, averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals. He scored 19 points with eight dimes and five boards against Belmont. He followed with 21 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals against TSU.

Lisa Wickham
Track & Field | SR | Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago

Week's Achievements: Wickham broke her own school record in the 60m at the Buccaneer Invitational, besting her old mark by four-hundredths of a second for a time of 7.28. In winning the event, she turned in the 12th-fastest time in the nation this year, which still ranks 14th overall today.

January 20 - January 26

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 54.5 percent from downtown in two games. In Tech's victory over Morehead State, the point guard led the way with 18 points on 58.3 percent shooting. He also dished out five assists in the contest.

Jordan Brock
Women's Basketball | JR | G | Harlan, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Brock enjoyed back-to-back strong showings on offense in leading Tech to two OVC wins, averaging 19.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. She posted a season-high 21 points with four assists against Morehead State and dropped 17 more with four rebounds against EKU.

January 13 - January 19

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay was the lead playmaker for Tech once again, averaging 18 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games. He turned in a season-high 22 points in  24 minutes at Eastern Illinois, shooting 50 percent from the field. He added 14 in Tech's first OVC win of the year at SIUE.

Kesha Brady
Women's Basketball | JR | G | Smyrna, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Brady exploded to average 24 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while keeping Tech undefeated in OVC play. At SIUE, she posted 28 points on better-than 60 percent shooting. She added 20 more with an 8-for-9 showing at the charity stripe at Eastern Illinois.

January 6 - January 12

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay kept his hot streak alive, recording two more double-digit scoring performances over the weekend. Against Austin Peay who dropped a season-high 20 points with four assists. He followed it up with 18 points and four more dimes against Murray State. 

Jordan Brock
Women's Basketball | JR | G | Harlan, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Brock was the offensive leader for the Golden Eagles in two wins, averaging 13.0 points and three assists per game while shooting above 50 percent from deep. She hit 3-of-4 tries from downtown on her way to 15 points against Murray State.

December 30 - January 5

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay led the Golden Eagles through their opening weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play, averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. He scored 11 with eight boards and three dimes at EKU before tallying 17 points, four boards and three more dimes at Morehead.

Anacia Wilkinson
Women's Basketball | SR | F | Houston, Texas

Week's Achievements: Wilkinson put forth a career performance at Morehead State, hitting six shots and all four free throws for 16 points. She added six boards while tying the program's single-game blocks record with nine rejections. For the week, she averaged 10.5 points and six rebounds.

December 23 - December 29

Darius Allen
Men's Basketball | SR | G | Melbourne, Fla.

Week's Achievements: Allen helped the Golden Eagles to a brilliant first half of play at Ole Miss, tying for the team lead in scoring for the entire contest. He finished with 13 points behind a 3-for-6 showing from 3-point range. He added two rebounds and a steal while playing 22 minutes. 

Maaliya Owens
Women's Basketball | FR | G | Georgetown, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Owens erupted for a season-high performance, dropping 16 points with three rebounds and four assists against Tennessee Wesleyan. The rookie hit four triples on 10 tries in the contest, finishing 6-of-13 from the field overall. She also blocked a shot.

December 16 - December 22

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay continued his impressive run, averaging a team-high 16.5 points in a pair of contests. He scored 16 at Lipscomb before following up the performance with 17 more against Western Carolina. He added five assists and five steals in the second tilt. 

Mackenzie Coleman
Women's Basketball | JR | F | Edmonton, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Coleman was highly efficient in Tech's pair of victories, averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 12-of-16 from the field. She dropped 16 points with seven boards on 7-for-9 shooting at Western Carolina. She added 11 points and eight boards versus Lipscomb.

December 2 - December 8

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay kept his hot touch rolling in Tech's two contests, averaging 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He shot 52.4 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc while hitting all three of his free throw attempts. 

Kesha Brady
Women's Basketball | JR | G | Smyrna, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Brady led the Golden Eagles offensively in their contest at Vanderbilt, netting a team-high 15 points while shooting 40 percent from the field and impressive 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. She sunk 10-of-12 tries from the free-throw line and hauled in two rebounds.

November 25 - December 1

Jr. Clay
Men's Basketball | SO | G | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Clay turned in his best offensive performance of the season, posting a team-high 17 points on 50 percent shooting against in-state foe Lipscomb. He sank 4-of-8 attempts from 3-point range and also dished out two assists in the contest.

Mackenzie Coleman
Women's Basketball | JR | F | Edmonton, Ky.

Week's Achievements: Coleman played a pivotal role in Tech's success at the South Point Thanksgiving Classic, averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Named the All-Tournament Team, she enjoyed her best showing with 18 points, eight boards and two blocks in a win against Detroit Mercy.

November 18 - November 24

David Gist
Football | SO | RB | Cookeville, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Gist provided the top showing on offense in Tech's season finale against Tennessee State, totaling 161 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. He accounted for 107 rushing yards on 18 carries and caught two passes for 54 yards and a score.

Kesha Brady
Women's Basketball | JR | G | Smyrna, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Brady was an offensive force through two games for Tech, averaging 24.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. She dropped a career-high 33 points on 9-of-13 shooting and an 11-for-11 showing from the charity stripe at Samford. She added a team-high eight boards in the contest.

November 11 - November 17

Seth Carlisle
Football | SO | QB | Red Boiling Springs, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Carlisle racked up a career-high 13 tackles, along with half a stop for loss and one quarterback hurry, in Tech's contest at Eastern Kentucky. It marked his second-straight week, and third game of the season, tallying double digits in tackles.

Taylor Dorsey
Volleyball | SO | MB | Birmingham, Ala.

Week's Achievements: Dorsey was a beast in helping Tech to back-to-back victories over Tennessee State and Belmont to close the regular season, totaling 18 kills and 12 blocks. Against the Bruins, she recorded a career-high 11 blocks and turned in 13 kills for a double-double.

November 4 - November 10

Bailey Fisher
Football | SO | QB | Clayton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fisher guided Tech to its first win over Jacksonville State since 2010, accounting for over 330 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. In the Homecoming victory, he became the first Golden Eagle quarterback to rush for more than 100 yards since Brock McCoin in 2015.

Ashley Hand
Volleyball | SO | S | Greenwood Village, Colo.

Week's Achievements: Hand was stellar in matches at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky, averaging 12.43 assists per set with a total of 87. She surpassed 1,000 assists for her career while accounting for five kills, 19 digs, three blocks and a double-double.

October 28 - November 3

David Gist
Football | SO | RB | Cookeville, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Gist toted the brunt of the offensive responsibility in Tech's victory at Murray State, becoming the first Golden Eagle running back to top 100 yards on the ground since accomplishing the feat the season before. He added 45 yards receiving and a TD grab.

Nancy Jesang
Women's Cross Country | FR | Eldoret, Kenya

Week's Achievements: Jesang set a Tech program record for the best finish by a freshman at the OVC Championships, placing third overall in the 5K race. The rookie also set a season-best time of 17:55.0, the first sub-18-minute mark of her career, on her way to All-OVC First Team honors.

October 21 - October 27

Bailey Fisher
Football | SO | QB | Clayton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fisher was efficient in Tech's contest against in-state rival Austin Peay, completing 23-of-30 passes for 202 yards, a completion percentage of 76.7. He also totaled three touchdowns through the air in the contest, as well as 16 yards on the ground.

Ashley Hand
Volleyball | SO | S | Greenwood Village, Colo.

Week's Achievements: Hand continued her breakout season by averaging 11.25 assists per set in matches against Austin Peay and Murray State. She totaled 90 helpers on the weekend while also adding eight kills and 19 digs, not to mention seven blocks. Hand locked in two double-doubles as well.

October 14 - October 20

Ababu Mohamed
Men's Cross Country | JR | Houston, Texas

Week's Achievements: Mohamed captured a first-place showing at the Murray State Open, the highest finish of his Golden Eagle career. He clocked in with a time of 26:12.9 in the 8K race, finishing a full 10 seconds ahead of the next closest runner.

Nancy Jesang
Women's Cross Country | FR | Eldoret, Kenya

Week's Achievements: Jesang took home her second-consecutive first-place finish of the year, leading the Golden Eagles at the Murray State Open. She posted a final time of 19:00.1 in the 5K competition, smoking the next closest participant by more than 30 seconds.

October 7 - October 13

Will Brooks
Men's Golf | JR | Cookeville, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Brooks collected his second consecutive top-five finish and All-Tournament honor at the Intercollegiate at The Grove, firing a 142 in the rain-shortened event. The junior tied for fourth after carding a second-round 68, the low score of the final day of action.

Isabelle Austin
Soccer | R-JR | GK | Sylvania, Ohio

Week's Achievements: Austin boasted the best weekend of her career, guiding the Golden Eagles to a pair of shutout victories. Facing the league's top offensive team, she made a whopping nine saves against Murray State in a 3-0 win. She followed with four stops at Jacksonville State in a 1-0 victory.

September 30 - October 6

Ababu Mohamed
Men's Cross Country | JR | Houston, Texas

Week's Achievements: Mohamed paced the Golden Eagles at the Upstate Invitational over the weekend, turning in his best career finish by placing second overall. He turned in an 8K time of 25:31.1, marking the third time in three events this season he led all Tech runners.

Nancy Jesang
Women's Cross Country | FR | Eldoret, Kenya

Week's Achievements: Jesang claimed first place overall at the Upstate Invitational, leading the Golden Eagles to a team victory at the event as well. The rookie turned in a season-best time of 18:04.2 for the 5K, a mark good enough to rank 20th in program history.

September 23 - September 29

Bailey Fisher
Football | SO | QB | Clayton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fisher set a new program record with six touchdown passes at Eastern Illinois, helping Tech to a 4-1 start to the year. He completed 22 of his 34 attempts through the air, accounting for 269 yards. He also added 29 yards on the ground. 

Ali Verzani
Volleyball | JR | OH | Sioux City, Iowa

Week's Achievements: Verzani established a new career-high with 23 kills in Tech's OVC win over Southeast Missouri. She also notched her seventh double-double of the year with 12 digs. For the week, she posted 31 kills, 18 digs and 33.5 points for the purple and gold.

September 16 - September 22

Bailey Fisher
Football | SO | QB | Clayton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fisher was dominant in Tech's victory at Western Illinois, accouting for five total touchdowns and over 400 yards of total offense. He passed for two scores in the first half and rushed for three more in the second half while accounting for 90 yards on the ground.

Ashley Hand
Volleyball | SO | S | Greenwood Village, Colo.

Week's Achievements: Hand turned in a brilliant week for the Golden Eagles, totaling more than 200 assists in four matches. She set a new career-high with 58 at Evansville and notched at least 51 in each of the four contests. She added 14 kills and 10 blocks on the week as well.

September 9 - September 15

Metrius Fleming
Football | FR | WR | Elberton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fleming was special all over the field for the Golden Eagles in their win over Virginia-Wise. The rookie returned a kickoff 91 yards for a score to tie the game at 7-7 early. He also caught three passes for 65 yards on the night, totaling 161 all-purpose yards.

Ali Verzani
Volleyball | JR | OH | Sioux City, Iowa

Week's Achievements: Verzani helped lead the Golden Eagles to their first two victories of the season, accounting 45 kills and 54.5 total points in three matches. She hit an impressive 35.2 percent for the week, leading Tech in kills, points, service aces and attack percentage.

September 2 - September 8

Luke Ward
Football | SR | QB | Decaturville, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Ward was highly efficient with his time on the field at Miami (Ohio), orchestrating multiple touchdown drives in the fourth quarter. The senior finished the contest with 83 yards on 7-of-9 passing and 83 yards through the air.

Bailey Taylor
Soccer | FR | F | Powell, Tenn.

Week's Achievements: Taylor exploded offensively for the Golden Eagles, scoring three goals in two wins over the weekend. The rookie notched a late, game-tying marker at North Alabama to force overtime Friday night before scoring both Tech tallies in Sunday's win over App State.

August 26 - September 1

Bailey Fisher
Football | SO | QB | Clayton, Ga.

Week's Achievements: Fisher willed the Tennessee Tech football to a come-from-behind, double-overtime victory over Samford to open the season, accounting for five touchdowns and over 460 yards of total offense. He passed for a career-high 415 yards, the third-most in program history.

Dallas Oatis
Volleyball | FR | MB | Detroit, Mich.

Week's Achievements: Oatis paced the Golden Eagles in both kills and points over the weekend. The freshman middle blocker exploded in her collegiate debut against Northern Arizona, tallying 15 kills while hitting .357 and racking up three total blocks.
