Outfielder Derek Lane was among the most successful players in Tech baseball history, earning numerous academic awards while slugging himself into the Tech record book.

A three-time all-OVC selection in the field, Lane was also an OVC Scholar-Athlete and a first-team GTE All-American.

He set the Tech Career record for most runs scored (144), and tied the career mark for stolen bases (78). Following his final season, he also ranked second in six additional career categories. In 1987, he led Tech in runs (40), home runs (12) and stolen bases (16), and batted .367.
