Wayne Pack, an All-American guard, was one of the top players in the Ohio Valley Conference during the early 70s, and a favorite of Tech fans for his slashing style of play. He was a two-time all-OVC selection, first as a sophomore in 1971 and again to cap off his senior season in 1973. He led the team in scoring his final season with 18.4 point per game, and topped the Golden Eagles in assists all three seasons of varsity basketball.

As a senior, the 6-foot guard led the team with 5.9 assists per game and was selected to a Tennessee All-Star team for a two-game series against a Kentucky All-Star team. Pack was named MVP of both games after scoring team-highs of 25 and 14 points in two Tennessee victories. His career-high was 35 points, coming against Austin Peay as a senior, a year he went on to earn all-OVC and honorable mention all-American laurels from The Sporting News.

A four-year letterman, Pack was the team leader in points and assists on Tech’s freshman team in 1969-1970. As a sophomore, Pack was second in scoring (17.5 PPG) and led the team in assists (6.7 APG) on his way to claiming all-OVC honors. Among his season highlights were a school-record 16 assists in one game, a standard which stood for 20 years. As a junior, Pack led the team in assists and was third in scoring, helping lift coach Connie Inman’s Squad to a 14-11 record.

The Indianapolis native went on to play one season with the Indiana Pacers and one year with the Iberian Superstars in Barcelona.

Following his playing career, Pack spent over 18 years working as a Human Resources Manager for Marketing and Sales with Thomson Consumer Electronics in Indianapolis.
