Rodney Moore
Year: 1975-79
Hometown: Clarksville, Tenn.
Team: Men's Track & Field
Induction Year: 1995

Rodney Moore is only the second person in the Tech Sports Hall of Fame who competed solely in track and field, joining the 1950’s standout Tom Chilton. Moore earned letters in both indoor and outdoor track from 1975-1978, winning five individual conference championships, and earning All-America recognition.

A native of Clarksville, Moore came to Tech as a walk-on quarter miler in 1974-75, and only learned to run hurdles after making the team under Coach Bob Noye. Moore began breaking school records in sprints and hurdles as a freshman, earned a scholarship, and continued through four successful years. He set the OVC record in high hurdles as a junior, won three OVC individual outdoor titles and three indoor championships.

Moore met the strict national qualifying standards and competed in the 1976 NCAA championships where he was a finalist. He returned to the NCAA national championship in 1978, finishing fourth, and earning All-America recognition in indoor track. Moore also qualified to compete in the NCAA outdoor championships in 1978, where he reached the semi-finals.

That same year he was named Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Year, still the only Tech winner of that prestigious honor.

Moore graduated in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and took a position with the General Electric Corporation, which was his employer for at least 15 years. He moved up the ladder within GE, with positions in Danville, Ill., Louisville, Burlington, VT., and Cincinnati. Rodney moved to a managerial position in 1987.
