Ron Shumate was a baseball and basketball letterman at Tech from 1957-61. He helped his team win the 1986 Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship and was named MIAA Coach of the Year. Shumate was a three-year starter at forward in basketball and played first base for three seasons in baseball. He set OVC and Tech batting records and he also set the school record for highest fielding percentage in a season, going without an error in 221 chances. His coaching collegiate record is 252-103 and his high school coaching mark is 110-39.
