Broyles starred as a halfback for the Golden Eagles from 1950 to 1953, lettering all four seasons. He played on the two OVC Championship teams in 1952 and 1953. In '53 he received the Robert Hill Johnson award as the first non-lineman in program history to receive the honor. This followed his selection as team captain of the 1952 team.
