From 1927-1931, Joe Sills played football, baseball, and basketball for Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, gathering a total of 11 letters for his efforts. While he was a standout in all three sports, it was on the baseball diamond that he attracted the most attention. He signed with the Nashville Vols (a semi-pro team) and played many years in the Southern League. He ultimately became Superintendent of Tennessee Preparatory School, where he was instrumental in convincing many fine students and athletes to attend his alma mater.
