COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Members of several different sports teams from Tennessee Tech will be on hand to participate in the annual Cooking on the Square fundraising event.
“This will be the first year we have a booth,”
compliance coordinator Mandy Thatcher said. “We’re very
excited about the amount of student support we have gotten for the
event.”
Both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the
women’s basketball team will run booths for the
two-hour event.
Both booths will be open on the courthouse square from 11
a.m.-1 p.m. Other individual businesses will also be on hand and
bowls will be donated by local artists. Bowls cost $20 each and all
proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity.
The SAAC booth will be set up by members of the men’s
golf team, while members of the women’s golf team will be on
hand to serve. Three dishes will be available including
Thatcher’s gumbo and a vegetarian black bean soup. Volleyball
head coach John Blair will also provide his own gumbo
concoction.
“I’ll be preparing a chicken and sausage gumbo,
which is one of my favorites,” Blair said. “It is for a
great cause and I have been a strong supporter of Habitat for
Humanity. The work they do is exemplary and it was an easy decision
to take part in this event.”
The women’s basketball coaching staff and sophomore
guard Katherine Barker will also be on hand as they will man
‘The Big Easy Eagles’ booth. They will serve Cider from
the Sideline.
“We always look for ways to give back to the
community,” head coach Sytia Messer said. “This is a
great cause to be a part of and we really hope this helps people
live a lot more comfortably for the holiday season.”
