Tech cross country back in action Friday at Commodore Classic

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams continue their respective 2021 campaigns Friday morning, competing at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.

The men's 8K will kick off the action at 8:30 a.m. CT with the women's 5K to follow at 9:15 a.m.

The men's squad enters Friday's event after a strong start to the season at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C. two weeks ago. The Golden Eagles placed fifth among a talented field of 13 teams.

Newcomer Dominic Smith paved the way for Tech, delivering a personal-record time of 25:39.60 to collected a top-15 finish overall. Collecting a top-25 finish was fellow newbie Miceal McCaul, who turned in a 26:10.04.

The women's team also produced a hot beginning to the 2021 campaign, producing a fourth-place finish at the same event.

The Golden Eagles were led by freshman Ruby Wyles, who finished with a time of 17:44.90 in her first collegiate race. She earned an 11th place finish overall. Returning freshman Amanda Laboy was next among the Tech finishers, clocking in at 18:06.73.

The Field
The Commodore Classic field consists of host Vanderbilt, as well as Austin Peay, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Missouri, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and Western Kentucky.

Following this weekend's race, the Golden Eagles will compete next at the Louisville Classic on Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
