Tech cross country teams to host Golden Eagle Invitational Friday at Golden Eagle Golf Club

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams wrap up their 2020-21 regular season campaigns Friday afternoon, playing host to the Golden Eagle Invitational at the Golden Eagle Golf Club in Cookeville.

Both the men's and women's fields consist of eight teams, including four Ohio Valley Conference opponents. The women's field will kick off the action in the 5K at 2:00 p.m. CT. The men's field will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the 8K.

The Golden Eagle men's squad enters its home event after a four-place showing in the Gold Men's 8K at the Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State back on Feb. 5. Redshirt sophomore Dennis Kipkorir turned in a career-best time of 25:47.1 to finish 24th overall and lead the Tech pack. He was followed by freshman Clayton Kirkus, who produced an improved effort from his debut with a finishing time of 26:02.4 to finish 29th.

On the women's side, junior transfer Tina Cesnik was the first member of the Golden Eagles to cross the finish line in her purple and gold debut, clocking a time of 23:54.6. Rookie Amanda Laboy followed her strong collegiate debut with a personal best showing in the 6K with a time of 23:59.8.

The Field
The Golden Eagle Invitational field consists of Austin Peay, Chattanooga, Jacksonville State, Northern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri, St. Louis, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.

Following this weekend's race, the Tech squads will wrap up the 2020-21 schedule at the OVC Cross Country Championships in Clarksville, Tenn.
