Women's cross country makes appearance at Pre-Nationals

LOUISVILLE – The Tennessee Tech women's cross country team competed in its first 6k of the season at the adidas® Pre-National Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

The Golden Eagles ran in the black unseeded 6k race but could not record a team finish, as their fifth scorer, Micayla Rennick, suffered an injury.

  1. Nevada (62 points) – No. 20 in the Mountain Region
  2. BYU (96 points) – No. 16 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll
  3. Michigan (170 points) – No. 4 in the Coaches' Poll
  4. Arkansas (173 points) – No. 9 in the Coaches' Poll
  5. Ohio (219 points)
  6. Quinnipiac (267 points)
  7. Indiana State (296 points)
  8. Texas Tech (300 points; wins tiebreaker with Clemson)
  9. Clemson (300 points)
  10. Western Michigan (307 points)

"Our women were solid today," said head coach Wayne Angel. "They competed very well despite losing Micayla to a foot injury. I'm confident that we will be able to pull things together by conference."

Purity Sanga led the Golden Eagles with a 38th-place finish and time of 21:52.4. Madison Stremler followed in 238th, timing 24:50.8, and Anna Cooper finished close behind in 242nd with a time of 24:56.1.

D'Airrien Jackson wrapped up the Tech squad in 258th place, finishing in 28:59.5.

Tech will spend the next two weeks preparing for the OVC Championships, which will be run at Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois, on Saturday, Oct. 28.
