LOUISVILLE – The Tennessee Tech women's cross country team ends a long break from competition with an appearance at the NCAA Division I adidas® Pre-Nationals Invitational this Saturday.

The meet, which often serves as a preview for the NCAA Championships each year, will be held at the University of Louisville's E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. The course will also host the Division I Cross Country Championships in mid-November.

The women's unseeded 6k, Tech's first 6k this season, will go off at 11:15 a.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 14. It will be streamed live on FloTrack.

As of Oct. 2, Louisville will welcome over 50 women's teams to compete in the meet. A host of teams are nationally ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll, including No. 4 Michigan, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 19 Utah State, No. 25 Georgia and No. 29 Mississippi State. No. 2 Oregon and No. 16 BYU were also late entries.

"We're ready to compete in a meet with a very large field of Division I athletes," said head coach Wayne Angel. "It will be the greatest test that we have had this season as a team as well as individually for (Purity) Sanga.

"Our women continue to improve – even though we are small in numbers, we are big in heart. I look for a huge breakthrough with Purity this week. The school 6k record could be in jeopardy."

Tech last raced at the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 23 in Gainesville, Florida, placing 17th. Freshman Purity Sanga finished third out of the 285 individual runners.
