LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Tennessee Tech men and women's cross country team had another strong showing on Saturday morning at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
The men were paced by freshman Gilbert Boit who placed seventh overall in the men's Gold Race with an 8K time of 23:59.70. Boit came in about 20 seconds behind the lead runner from Louisville, who completed his 8K in 23:34.80.
Also finishing for the men were Daniel Williamson, who finished his 8K 103rd overall with a time of 25:31.07. Sigei Bernard came in third for Tech and 116th overall with a time of 25:39.41, Brannon Cheplak came in 164th overall with a time of 26:02.25, Paul Patterson finished 251st (26:53.64),Anthony Rono came in 283rd with a time of 27:30.90, and Joshua Daughtry placed 298th overall (28:06.26).
As a team, the Golden Eagle men placed 13th with a score of 326 in a field of 33 (21 of which were Division 1) teams. Top Division I teams finishing were: (1) Virginia Tech, 59 points; (2) Middle Tennessee State, 62 points; (3) Louisville, 148 points; (4) Eastern Kentucky, 199 points; (5) Davidson, 209 points; (6) Liberty, 217 points; (7) Morehead State, 231 points; (8) Tennessee, 247 points; (9) Auburn, 260 points; and (10) Toledo, 276 points.
Micayla Rennick finished first for the Golden Eagle women in the Blue Race. Rennick placed second overall in a field of 48 teams (six of which were Division I) with a 5K time of 17:53.62. Sarah Brandt came in 11th overall for Tech with a time of 18:26.72. Also finishing for the Golden Eagles were Purity Murray (22nd overall, 18:42.49), Jenna Storms (55th overall, 19:24.28), Madison Stremler (139th overall, 20:08.55), Anna Cooper (212th overall, 20:44.63), D'Airrien Jackson (221st overall, 20:52.16), Andrea Retano (293rd overall, 21:35.79), and Crystal Liebenberg (315th overall, 22:01.45).
As a team, the Golden Eagle women placed first overall with a score of 36 points. Other top finishers in the Division I women's Blue Race were: (2) IPFW, 47 points; (3) Evansville, 60 points; (4) Western Kentucky, 75 points; (5) Tennessee State, 136 points; and (6) Chicago State, 165 points.
Tech returns to action on October 15 when the women travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Front Runner Invitational and the men head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals.
