Improving times one goal for women's cross country team at Indiana

OOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- With a goal of continuing growth, development, and improvement, the Tennessee Tech women's cross country team will be on the course Saturday morning at the Indiana Open, facing an extremely talented University of Indiana Hoosiers squad. The 5K match is schedule to begin at 9:20 a.m. EST on the IU Championship Cross Country Course in Bloomington, Ind.

The men's 8K will follow at 10:10 a.m. EST.

First-year coach Wayne Angel's squad opened the 2014 season last week with a fourth-place showing among the seven teams running at the Carolina Invitational. Senior Yeshi DOhrmann led Tech at Carolina, placing 21st overall in the time of 20:57.85, missing a Top 20 showing by half-a-second. The balance of the lineup will include freshmen Valeria McNamara, Anna Cooper, Baylee Balgemann, Kathie O'Neill, juniors Sarah Wilson, and Landry Loving, and senior Emily Williams.

Indiana brings back a number of contributors from last season as the IU ladies had their best finish at the NCAA Championships since the 2002 season. The Hoosier women made their first appearance as a team at NCAAs in 2013 for the first time in four years. Four runners that competed at NCAAs return in 2014 for the Hoosiers in Amanda Behnke, Brianna Johnson, Chanli Mundy and Bethany Neeley. Kelsey Duerksen, who would have competed at the NCAA meet if not for injury, also returns for her final season this fall.

The Indiana women also were ranked in 2013 for the first time in three years and had its highest ranking since 2004.

Complete results will be posted onTTUsports.com when they are available on Saturday afternoon.
