COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It's becoming a pretty impressive season
for Tennessee Tech senior Stephanie Place. On Tuesday, she was
named the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week
for the second time this season.
A Nursing major from Bristol, Place has run two races this season
and both times her performance has earned her the league's Runner
of the Week award.
Last Saturday, Place posted the fifth-best 5K time in Tech cross
country history by taking second at Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic
in Nashville. Place finished the course in 18:03.31, just six
seconds behind the winner from Vandy. She bested the other 75
runners in a field that included teams from Vanderbilt, Belmont,
Lipscomb and Albany, among others.
Place won her initial award this season two weeks ago (Sept. 9)
after Tech opened the season at the Sewanee Invitational.
She now owns the seven best 5K cross country times in Tech
history.
Place and the rest of the Tech team have this weekend off, then
return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, when they host their own event,
the TTU Invitational, at Southern Hills Golf Course.
