COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Breaking the school record which she had
set a year ago, Tennessee Tech senior Stephanie Place has earned
her fifth Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week honor for 2008,
her third in a row.
Place posted the fastest 5K time in the OVC on Saturday at the
Evansville Invitational, running the course in school record time
of 17:34.54, which was good enough for third place out of 188
runners and just three seconds behind the individual winner.
She had established the school record as a junior at 17:42, and
came close several times since. She has now run nine of the 10
fastest times in school history.
Eastern Kentucky senior Joseph Maina of Kenya was the OVC Male
Runner of the Week, his third honor of the season from the
conference.
Tech's cross country teams will run at the OVC Championships in
Cape Girardau, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 1.
