CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- After setting most of their career-best
marks two weeks ago, the Tennessee Tech women's and men's cross
country teams are hoping that trend continues Saturday when they
compete in the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference championships, hosted by
Southeast Missouri State University. The meet will take place at
the Jaycee Golf Course in Cape Girardeau, with the women's 5K race
starting at 9 a.m. CDT. The men's will run an 8K route beginning at
9:45 a.m.
The lineup for the Tech women's squad includes Ashley Evans, Traci
Jones, Sarah Kmet, Keri Light, Tiffany Palmer, Stephanie Place and
Amanda Simmons.Place, who has been named OVC RUnner of the Week
five times this season, finished fifth in the OVC meet as a
sophomore and third last year, capturing first-team all-OVC honors
both years. Keri Light placed ninth a year ago to earn second-team
all-OVC recognition.
Scheduled to run for the Tech men's team Saturday are Joseph
DeLorenzo, Brian Kennedy, Ethan McGroom, Jarrad Read, Ben Shassere,
Sam Taylor, Ben Thompson, Peter Woerner. The Tech men have not
placed a runner in the OVC Top 10 since Nathan Pugh did it in 1994
(10th) and 1995 (9th).
