COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech volleyball head coach Jeannette Waldo has announced that Peter Green will join her staff as an assistant coach.
Green is no stranger to the Ohio Valley Conference, having served as the associate head coach at Eastern Illinois from the 2015 season until his hiring at Tech. In 2017, he helped the Panthers to a 15-15 record and a third-place finish in the OVC Tournament and also coached Taylor Smith and Allie Hueston to spots on the All-OVC First Team.
"Peter Green will be a tremendous asset to our staff," said head coach Jeannette Waldo. "His previous knowledge and experience within the OVC makes him invaluable as we begin to rebuild this program into a conference powerhouse. He was an obvious standout early in the search, and his passion for Tech came through immediately."
During Green's three seasons at Eastern Illinois, the Panthers made two OVC Tournament appearances, finishing third in 2017. Statistically, EIU ranked within the top four in the OVC in assists and blocking for two seasons and within the top three in team hitting efficiency for two seasons as well. The Panthers received OVC Academic Honors for the highest GPA in the conference in 2017, totaling a team GPA of 3.52.
Prior to arriving in Charleston, Green spent the 2014 season at SEC program Mississippi State. He was primarily tasked with implementing swing blocking and faster-tempo offensive systems into the Bulldogs' game plans. Green also coached then-freshman standout Payton Harris, who earned AVCA All-American honorable mention, All-SEC freshman and First Year Academic All-SEC honors.
Green spent the 2013 season at Virginia as a volunteer assistant coach. The Cavaliers saw a tremendous turnaround from a 2012 season in which they went 9-22 and finished 15th in the Atlantic Coast Conference. With the help of Green, UVA posted a 2013 record of 18-14 and tied for 5th in the ACC.
Green didn't have to go far to get to UVA from Virginia Commonwealth, located in Richmond just an hour from Charlottesville. He worked as an assistant coach for the Rams, specifically with the middle blockers, in the 2012 season. VCU finished third in the Atlantic-10 Conference and collected a record of 25-6 overall. Freshman middle blocker Martina Samadan ended the season ranked fourth nationally in blocks per set.
Green also has head coaching experience on the Division II level, as he coached from 2008 to 2012 at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. For the first time in school history, the Hawks won back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships in 2009 and 2010 and finished runner-up in 2011. Green was named the 2011 CIAA Coach of the Year. Under Green's direction, Chowan went 99-42 and had nine All-CIAA first-team, five second-team and five rookie-team selections. A Hawk also won CIAA Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011 and Rookie of the Year in 2011.
Green began his NCAA career as a part-time assistant coach at Division III Randolph-Macon College, where he personally recruited two conference players of the year and various all-conference players.
Green has also coached at a handful of USA Volleyball travel clubs in Virginia and at his high school alma mater of Fredericksburg Christian, where he revived the boys' varsity team.
