TTU drops road match in Clarksville, 3-1

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech volleyball team could not capitalize on a first set victory, dropping the final three to a deep Austin Peay squad, 3-1; 25-18, 24-26, 17-25, 25-21.

In the opening set, junior Cody Dodd and freshman Kellie Williams each tallied four kills to lead the Golden Eagles. A seven-point service run separated the Golden Eagles and helped give them a 12-10 advantage. From there they never looked back in the opener.

Austin Peay found its mojo, and rallied the next three set, behind Aubrey Marsellis' 12 kills on a clip of .417. Hillary Plybon added 10 kills and only committed one error. The Lady Govs also got 11 kills and 19 digs from Jada Stotts.

The Golden Eagles received 14 kills and 12 digs from Dodd. Offensively, Williams added seven kills and fellow freshman K'Vonna Johnson added nine. Defensively, senior libero Courtney Smith 28 digs, redshirt sophomore Alyssa Povey added a team-high five blocks, along with seven kills.

The Golden Eagles combined for 11 team blocks compared to the Lady Govs' six.  However, that was the only statistical category TTU held the advantage as APSU registered 57 kills to TTU's 47, 55 assists to 44, six aces to Tech's four, and 70 digs to TTU's 64.

Tech returns to action tomorrow when they head to Murray State to take on the top-ranked Racers at 6 p.m. CT.
