JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Despite coming off a pair of solid matches at the UT Chattanooga Invitational, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team was unable to keep its momentum going as it dropped its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season to Jacksonville State Tuesday evening.
Coming off a pair of one-sided sets that favored the Gamecocks 25-17 and 25-18, the Golden Eagles came back from the break with renewed determination as they found themselves knotted up with JSU at 11. Both teams found themselves tied up again at 14, but Jacksonville State put together a small rally to build a four-point lead at 18-14.
The Golden Eagles and Gamecocks matched each other in the scoring category the rest of the way, as JSU took the set 25-21, and the match.
Ellen Conti tallied nine kills off the bench, while hitting .286. Conti was matched by her teammate Natalie Penrod, who also tallied nine kills. Kelsey Gray added seven kills of her own, as well as three blocks.
The Golden Eagles open their home schedule Friday, as they host the UT Martin Skyhawks, at 7 p.m.
