Golden Eagles wrap up road trip at SIU Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --- The Tennessee Tech volleyball team wrapped up its four-match road trip Saturday, as it took a three-set loss at SIU Edwardsville.

For the second straight match junior Kelsey Gray and sophomore Natalie Penrod provided the hot hands on offense as they accounted for 22 kills, with Gray notching 12, while hitting .455. Freshman Ellen Conti also provided some offense with eight kills as well.

The opening set saw the Golden Eagles climb back from a six-point deficit, as they forced extra points. Tech had an opportunity to take the set at 26-25, but the Cougars mounted a comeback of their own as they rang off three straight points to take the set 28-26.

The second and the third sets saw so close action early on, but SIUE was able to pull away in each instance as it took the final two sets 25-13 and 25-18 to secure the match.

Freshman Courtney Smith posted a match-high 16 digs, while sophomore Ashleigh Hancock dished out a team-high 15 assists.

The Golden Eagles (4-24, 3-15 OVC) return home for their final two matches of the season, beginning with Eastern Kentucky Friday, at 7 p.m.
