Tennessee Tech sweeps season series against Jacksonville State
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (7-18, 5-9 OVC) earned their second victory of the season against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in four sets. Tech won by the scores of 27-22, 22-26, 25-20 and 25-23.
 
"It was a match between to fairly even teams," head coach John Blair said. "Each team had some good points, but we just had a few more than they did."
 
The Golden Eagles started off the first set hot as they built a 9-4 lead. Undaunted the Gamecocks were able to claw their way back and take the lead at 20-19. TTU was able to recovery quickly though as they took the first set in extra points 27-25.
 
The second set remained close the whole way as neither team led by more than two points. JSU had the first shot at taking the second set when it took the lead at 24-23. A kill by senior Leah Meffert forced extra points for the second straight set, but the Gamecocks were able to recover to take the set 26-24.
 
The third set remained close as both teams were tied at 18. Tech would then go on a 7-2 run, behind a pair of kills from sophomore Kelsey Gray, to take the third set 25-20.
 
Just like the third set both teams found themselves tied up late in the fourth set at 19. The Golden Eagles ended the fourth set on a 6-4 run behind two kills from Meffert and senior Marie Peddicord top take the fourth set 25-20 and the match.
 
Gray and Peddicord led the Tech offense with 13 kills each, while freshman Allison May led the Golden Eagles in digs with 33. Senior Melanie Culp added 37 assists.
 
"Allison May had an excellent match tonight," Blair said. "She played the way she is capable of playing and did what we have come to expect from her."
 
Tennessee Tech wraps up its regular season with a four-match homestand beginning with Murray State Friday, at 7 p.m.
