Trio of Golden Eagles tabbed for OVC volleyball honors

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After playing their way into their fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, three Tennessee Tech volleyball players have earned OVC honors.

Senior Leah Meffert was named to the all-OVC team, while freshmen Allison May and Natalie Penrod represent the 19th and 20th Golden Eagles named to the OVC all-newcomer team.
 
A native of Louisville, Ky.. Meffert has been a staple of the Tech volleyball program over the last four seasons. Meffert leads the Golden Eagles in kills with 375 and ranks second in the conference in kills per set with 3.54. With her 375 kills this season, Meffert has become the all-time kills leader at Tech with 1,688 career kills. Meffert also leads the team in aces with 34 and was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 12 and Oct. 18.
 
Coming out of Louisville, Ky., May has provided a stabilizing presence on defense. She leads the team in digs with 501 (4.55 dps), which ranks eighth in the OVC. May has recorded at least 30 digs in three matches this season including a career-high 36 against Eastern Illinois (10/9).
 
From Alexandria, Ky., Penrod has given the Golden Eagles a spark on offense. She is third on the team in kills with 250 (2.38 kps). Penrod has also added 113 digs, 41 total blocks and nine service aces. She recorded at least 10 kills in 11 matches this season including a career-high 16 against Southeast Missouri (11/13).
 
The Golden Eagles take on Jacksonville State Thursday, at 3:30 p.m., in the opening round of the OVC Tournament.
