Volleyball squad outdueled at Austin Peay in OVC action

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (6-18, 4-9 OVC) fell to the Austin Peay Lady Govs Saturday afternoon, 3-0. Tech lost by the scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-23.

"We were not able to execute the way we are capable of," said head coach John Blair. "We will need a better team performance and a more effective outside attack if we are going to win at Jacksonville State."
 
The first set opened with APSU owning a one-point lead at 8-7. Using a 12-9 run, Austin Peay was able to stake out a four-point lead at 20-16, and was able to hold the Golden Eagles back for a 25-20 win to take the opening set.
 
Tech fell behind quickly in the second set as the Lady Govs built a quick 9-3 lead. Austin Peay would not look back as it took the second set 25-13.
 
The third set a seesaw contest in which neither team led by more than two points. Both teams were tied at 20 late in the set, but it was Austin Peay that was able to finish as the Lady Govs took the third set 25-23 and the match.
 
Senior outside hitter Leah Meffert led the Golden Eagles in kills with 11, while senior setter Melanie Culp added 31 assists.
 
Tennessee Tech wraps up its regular season road schedule Tuesday as it takes on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, at 7 p.m.
