COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech (6-14, 4-5 OVC) took the first match of its three-match homestand against Jacksonville State last Friday and will look to continue its winning ways against first-place Morehead State and second-place Eastern Kentucky.
"I think our team is more upbeat after that win against
Jacksonville State," head coach John Blair said. "We got off to a
slow start this season but we have figured things out and have
found the right formula to win. We just need to keep the amount of
errors down and keep applying pressure to the teams we're
facing."
The Golden Eagles start the weekend as they host the Eagles of
Morehead State Friday at 7 p.m. Tech is 17-49 all-time against the
Eagles, but is 2-2 over the last two seasons including a 3-0 sweep.
MSU currently sits atop the OVC with a 16-7 overall record and a
9-1 OVC record.
"I expect Morehead will be refocused after their loss," Blair
said. "They'll try to prevent another slip up like they had against
Austin Peay last Friday. We have to go right out and get
them."
TTU concludes the weekend against the Eastern Kentucky
Colonels who enter the weekend owners of an 8-11 overall record and
a 7-3 OVC mark, which ties Austin Peay for second in the conference
race. The Golden Eagles are 19-44 all-time against EKU including a
3-1 loss earlier this season. During the two previous years,
however, Tech posted a 3-1 record against the Colonels including a
pair of sweeps. The opening serve is scheduled for Saturday at 2
p.m.
"Eastern Kentucky got off to a slow start like us but they
have figured out what they needed to do to get in the win column,"
Blair said.
"The great thing about our conference is that the second half
of the season is just as open as the first," Blair continued. "Any
team can still put together a good run and make the OVC
tournament."
