COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Leah Meffert earned her third career OVC Offensive Player of the Week award, while sophomore Kelsey Gray took home her first Defensive Player of the Week award for their efforts in Tennessee Tech’s win 3-1 over Jacksonville State. The awards were announced Monday by the OVC office.
Meffert, a 5-11 outside hitter from Louisville, Ky., posted a
game-high 17 kills while hitting at a scorching .364 hitting
percentage. During the first set against JSU, Meffert recorded five
kills in eight attempts with no errors for a .625 average. In the
fourth set, Meffert recorded seven kills on nine attempts, with no
errors, and a .778 hitting percentage to put the match away. She
also recorded eight digs and two aces.
Gray, a 6-2 middle blocker from Newark, Ohio, recorded a
game-high 10 total blocks, five of which were solo blocks, as Tech
held Jacksonville State to a .065 hitting percentage. During the
second set against Jacksonville State, Gray recorded eight total
blocks, including four solo blocks, which helped the Golden Eagles
hold JSU to a -.306 hitting percentage. Gray also posted 11 kills,
with a .385 hitting percentage, and three digs.
The Golden Eagles (6-14, 4-5 OVC) wrap up their three-match
homestand this weekend as they take on Morehead State Friday, at 7
p.m., and Eastern Kentucky Saturday, at 2 p.m.
