In 2008 (Sophomore): Melanie appeared in 25 sets for the Golden Eagles, finishing the season with 29 assists, 20 digs, two kills and one ace...she set a single-game career high for assists with 11 against Miami of Ohio on Sept. 12 and helped Tech to a five-set victory over Jacksonville State on Sept. 23 with a career-high eight digs...also had six assists in a victory over Ball State on Sept. 6.
In 2007 (Freshman): Melanie saw action in 60
games in a supporting role and finished the season with 70 assists
and 32 digs...she had a season high with seven assists and five
digs on Nov. 2 against Tennessee State...she recorded two kills on
the season, one against Bulter and one against Utah Valley, both on
Aug. 31.
Prep Highlights: Culp led her Heritage Christian
team to a 2006 sectional championship and received both the
team’s best server (2003-04) and best defensive player awards
(2004)... Culp was coached by Michelle York, who played for Tech
helmer John Blair at Mississippi and was an assistant coach for
Blair at Ole Miss for eight seasons... Culp also has club
experience competing for Team Indiana, playing for the 18 Gators
coached by Rich Coleman. The team competed over the summer in the
USA national 18 open Championships in Minnesota... Also lettered
three years in softball as a center fielder / second baseman for
coach Brenda Jones.
