Men’s and women’s tennis set to dual with Southern Illinois

Tech women begin spring season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech women's tennis team begins its spring schedule, while the men look to make it two straight wins this weekend as both teams travel to Carbondale, Ill., to play Southern Illinois. Both teams are scheduled to take the court at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Last weekend, the Tech men earned a win against Georgia State to give first-year head coach Kenny Doyle his first victory at Tech. The Golden Eagles captured wins in five of six singles matches, and Alex Chen and Lloyd Harris won their doubles match as TTU evened its dual-match record at 1-1 this spring.

The women's team was scheduled to begin its spring season a weekend ago, but last Sunday's dual match against Mercer was canceled. Instead, this Saturday's match will serve as the team's season opener.

After having some success at tournament this past fall, the Golden Eagle squad has confidence going into the dual meet season. Victoria Cran finished the fall with a 6-2 record, while three other Golden Eagles earned at least two tournament wins. Additionally, the team of Cran and Frederike Kahl performed well, finishing with a 3-1 mark.

This Saturday's match will serve as the only tune up for the OVC season for the women's team as Tech hosts Jacksonville State on February 27 to begin conference play.

On the men's side, Tech will play one more dual meet, against No. 57 Middle Tennessee State, before also starting the OVC season against Jacksonville.
