2008-2009: Joanna's freshman year at Tech was one for experience, achievements and recognition. Her game really came together to help out the women's team in conference matches with singles wins against Southeast Missouri and Tennessee State, and doubles wins with partner Laura Porras against Southeast Missouri and Austin Peay. Joanna and Evgenia Yarsteva also won a conference match against Tennessee State. Her big win of the year was with Diana Woodcock as they took on a team in her home state, Arkansas-Little Rock. Joanna also showed outstanding acheivements in the classroom with a GPA of 3.50. She recieved recognition for her performance when coach Dan Silverstein and Lance Jassitt, TTU Assistant Athletic Director for Academics presented her with the inaugural Academic Award at the end of the year men and women's tennis sports banquet. Joanna's overall singles record for 2008-09 was 2-9, and her doubles was record 4-13.

Fall 2009: Joanna entered the fall season showing much improvements to her game. The only lefty on the woman's team, Corkern is able to maintain a hard, consistent, deep ball to counteract her opponents. Joanna played at the ETSU Invitational this semester, where Tech faced some tough teams. Joanna went 0-3 in singles, giving a tough fight in every match, and was 0-2 in doubles with partner Leydi Zora. Corkern's toughness on the court and a continuation of improval along with more experience shows she will be a big contribution to the Golden Eagles women's tennis team this Spring.

Before Tech: Joanna played Bentonville high school played for Paul Pautsch...helped the team win the Arkansas State Championships during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons...played in several USTA junior tournaments including the Southern Championships...was also coached by Jake Shoemake and Jared Ward.

Personal: Joanna Kathleen Corkern is the daughter of Kevin and Kathleen Corkern of Bentonville, Ark...two brothers, Sean and David...birthday is January 23, 1990...majoring in industrial engineering.
